Carnival Destiny Review

Carnival Destiny was the first ship to top 100,000 tons and was also the first of five Destiny class cruise ships. The Carnival Destiny has a full range of activities and entertainment for all ages and tastes. The outdoor activities span four decks, with three swimming pools, seven hot tubs, and two swim up bars. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the 214 foot waterslide, and teens on board will enjoy Club 02, a teens only dance club.

Dining

The two main dining rooms – Universe & Galaxy – offer seating at 6pm and 8pm. Breakfast and lunch are open seating, the time for breakfast is 7:45 am – 9:00 am, and lunch is served from 12:00 noon – 1:30 pm. The Sun & Sea grill located close to the main pool is a popular place to grab breakfast or lunch, and in addition to the restaurants mentioned, the Carnival Destiny also serves breakfast every morning until 10am.

I just got back from a cruise from Carnival Destiny. Before I went I read the reviews and was nervous about the friendly-ness of the staff and the floor plans of the ship. Well, I have to admit, the people that return with unpleasent attitudes towards the ship are completely wrong. The shows are breath taking, the food is mouth watering and the staff was formed by the nicest people collected world-wide. Carnival Destiny is an older ship and looks better than the newer ones. You will be amazed and please don’t listen to anybody else’s comments and reviews. Cruise on Carnival destiny and you’ll want to stay another week.

We just got back from a 5 night Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, Nassau Bahamas cruise on Destiny. I’ll second Katie’s comments. This was our 5th cruise, and the ship was spotless, decor was up-to-date, food really good, and staff a lot of fun, funny and friendly. Carnival deserves credit for maintaining this ship to such a high standard. I hope Destiny sails on for many more seasons. It is a beautiful ship!

Yes, the layout of this ship is a bit more confusing than most, but in a way, I like it. Slows you down, and you enjoy discovering neat little spots here and there onboard. Plus, it cuts down on kids drag-racing up and down hallways on every deck. Again, a beautiful ship.

Thanks so much for these two posts. We sail on July 7, 2011 and I must admit, I was horror-stricken to read so many negative posts. I guess one little thing gone wrong, for some, can equal a horrible cruise. I’ve cruised 5 or 6 times and each is different. I wonder if there’s any way to know of what the entertainment venue will be. Does anyone know how to find out? Do any of you have photos you’d be willing to share?

    Thanks again.

I have to agree with all the previous posts. I think the Carnival Destiny continues to provide best value for the dollar as well as good food and good service. I will have been on her 3 times and oddly enough, once every three years, 2005, 2008 and soon to be June 18th, 2011. She is the foundation for her newer sisters to be built on and after a not so recent refurbishment, still looks great for a ship of her years and miles. As for her staff, I have always been treated with a friendly smile and excellent service. Can’t wait to sail on her again
